About Pawley's Island
Since
the late 1700's, the wide sandy beaches of Pawleys Island and Litchfield
have been a favorite vacation destination of many generations. This barefoot
paradise encompasses a strip of land bordered on the east by the majestic
Atlantic Ocean and on the west by the Intracoastal Waterway/Waccamaw River.
In between the river and the ocean, you'll find a bounty of entertaining
diversions to enjoy. Or simply relax. Let the major event of the day be
strolling the beach barefooted, collecting shells and exploring the shore
with your family.
History and enchanting folklore abound in the "Low Country". The historic
seaport of Georgetown is ten minutes south of Pawleys. Tours of grand
old estates and plantations, as well as river cruises, provide a glimpse
into the past when rice was king, indigo was a major commodity, and Georgetown
was the wealthiest county in the new nation. Not to detract from this
immediate area, but Charleston does deserve some recognition. If you're
not familiar with Charleston, it is a very worthwhile day trip, approximately
one hour south of Georgetown.
Brookgreen Gardens is the finest collection of outdoor sculpture and
botanical gardens in the world. Drive five minutes north to tour the award
winning gardens, native aviary and wildlife areas. Special cultural events,
films, lectures and performing arts programs are presented throughout
the year.
For the golfer, we have thirteen challenging golf courses in our immediate
area (over 100 along the entire Grand Strand), designed by such greats
as Jack Nicklaus, Pete Dye and Tom Fazio. Tennis courts can be reserved
at Litchfield Country Club. Health club and spa facilities are also available.
Other
favorite pastimes include fishing in the surf for seasonal selections
or flounder fishing, shrimping and crabbing in the salt water creeks.
Nothing compares to an evening meal of "just caught" samplings from the
sea. Enjoy the quiet solitude of the creeks as you wait for a nibble on
your line. Inshore and Gulf Stream fishing excursions are available on
charters from Murrells Inlet and Georgetown. Ocean fishing piers are located
from Garden City to Myrtle Beach. Boat rentals are also available at various
locations.
Among this myriad of activities, we also have fantastic shopping in beautiful
villages such as the famous Hammocks Shops, The Island Shops and The Shops
of Oak Lea, Murrells Inlet and the Harborwalk in Georgetown. You'll find
clothing for all seasons, antiques and gift shops galore, and a full range
of original creations by our local artists and craftsmen.
Local restaurants are famous for their regional cuisine, and Murrells
Inlet is known as the seafood capital of South Carolina. Dress is usually
casual, and most restaurants accept reservations.
Should you decide to venture further north, you'll find the bright neon
lights of the Grand Strand. Fifteen minutes from Litchfield, the arcades,
amusement parks and putt-putt golf courses begin in Garden City and continue
through Myrtle Beach. Kids of all ages love this congested site of attractions.
At The Dieter Company, we specialize in beach home and condominium rentals
for all seasons. Our favorite time of year is known as the "off-season."
The crowds are gone, the fishing is great, and the "off-season" rates
begin. Reduced rates run from mid-August through May.
From the "Arrogantly Shabby" cottages on Pawleys Island, to the luxury condos
and homes of Litchfield Beach, we can provide you with vacation accommodations
any time of year you choose. Whether you are planning a large family holiday
requiring several houses or a simple repose for two, we welcome the opportunity
to assist you in making your vacation a memorable one. Like most of our
guests, we believe you and your family will want to return year after
year to our little paradise.
