Will Dieter

Owner & Broker in Charge

When were you hired by The Dieter Company?

I grew up working in the family business. I started out by dragging around a lawnmower and cutting grass before I was old enough for a drivers license.  Then graduating to changing light bulbs and toilet flappers and driving a box truck to deliver linens. After graduating from The Citadel I moved to Raleigh and Greenville, SC for a few years.  I was fortunate to move back to Pawleys Island in March of 2004 and have been with The Dieter Company ever since.

What are your primary duties at Dieter Company?

As the Owner and Broker in Charge, I am responsible for all Client, Owner, and Guest satisfaction.  By leading a fun and courteous group of rental and real estate professionals, I hope you will be pleased with our service.

Where were you born and when/ how did you end up in our area?

I am one of the rare and fortunate natives born and raised in Pawleys Island.

Your favorite rental property(s) and why?

It's so hard to pick!  I love some of the older beach houses that have a few quirks and are full of personality.  I am especially partial to homes on the creek with a floating dock for fishing and crabbing.  My family would say that it needs to be pet friendly so that our golden retriever and boston terrier can stay too.

What do you enjoy doing when not at work?

Being active and outside.  I love anything related to the water - especially fishing in the creek or cruising up the Waccamaw River with family and friends.

Favorite restaurant and what to order?

Bistro 217 is consistently the best fancy meal in town.  Bisquit is great for the kids.  Cabana Bar has the only oceanfront food in Pawleys Island.  Hog Heaven surprisingly offers the best oyster roast when the season is in.  You can't beat the wings at Island Bar. It's also worth spending one night on the Marshwalk or Grahams Landing in Murrells Inlet; or somewhere like The River Room overlooking the waterway in Georgetown.

What family activities do you recommend?

We have the best family beach on the East Coast.  If you can find somewhere to park the North end of Pawleys Island is always uncrowded and offers a wide, sandy beach, for the little kids.  The fishing is excellent here too!  Other great activities include a trip to Brookgreen Gardens and Atalya Castle, hooking up with a local fishing guide, or checking out our spring and fall festivals around Georgetown and Murrells Inlet.  Find some live music with outdoor seating. If it rains, put together a puzzle or play a classic board game.

What is your best local insider tip?

For Saturday Guests in the Summer - check out a little early;  for arriving guests - check in a little later.  This will help you avoid some of the traffic.   It's easier to get a dining reservation at 6 or 8 than it is at 7.   Several restaurants also have seating at the bar that doesn't require a reservation.  The PIT has live music almost every night.
