Things to Do
From the Revolutionary War to 1971 this National Historic Landmark was privately owned. It is an 18th-century plantation home that not only provided refuge for women and children during the Revolutionary War, the rice fields surrounding the property hid Francis Marion when British troops arrived at Hampton Plantation in search of him. George Washington saved a tree here! The state of South Carolina acquired the home in 1971. It was in deteriorating condition, and the decision was made to take the opportunity of removing much of the damaged plaster to expose the construction aspects and craftsmanship of the builders of the 18th century.

Beach Rentals have proved to be an excellent vacation choice during the challenges of Covid and last year was record-setting for many of our vacation homeowners. We have all learned a lot since last April and want to share some helpful insight in preparing for the upcoming rental season.
How to Make Your Pawleys Island Rental Stand Out
- Well-equipped kitchens are desirable as they allow families to cook and avoid dine-in restaurants.
- Your WIFI needs to be fast and secure. Without it, you are missing rental opportunities.
- Guest are looking for unique amenities like pools, table tennis, pool tables, fire pits, & game rooms.
- Outdoor spaces, with nice furnishings, are more important than ever.
- Renter expectations have risen. Old carpets, worn bedspreads, and dated sofas are not ok. They want newer, or well-maintained properties, and are willing to pay a premium for them.
- Keyless Entry and Smart Thermostats are starting to be of interest to guests.
Travelers want a nice place at the beach to comfortably spread out with close family and friends. What a great reminder that it’s time to arrange your annual “Spring Clean” and schedule preventative maintenance tasks. A name is a pretty important part of what makes your vacation rental, your vacation rental. It’s one of the first things that catches user’s attention when browsing a vacation rental website.
Wondering what to name your Pawleys Island beach house? We’re sharing some tips and some of our favorite beach property names in our program to help make your decision a little easier!
#1 – Make the Name Memorable
The most obvious tip is to make the property name memorable. You want future guests to remember your vacation home for years to come, and a standout name is just one of the ways to do that.
#2 – Make It Something Personal that Your Family Loves
A property name can come from something that means a lot to your family. Your personal experiences, memories from your time on Pawleys Island and Litchfield Beach, and much more. Maybe there is a certain feature of the house that makes your Pawleys Island home so special. - Sea’z the Day – “Reminds me how often we don’t take advantage of the environment we live in here and how lucky we are to live in the low country surrounded by the ocean, creeks, marshes and rivers.”
- Shore Broke – “I like this name because it describes what it is probably like to own a property at the beach. The price to pay to live on the shore.”
- Lakeside Villa (58A) – “The view from the windows and porch is absolutely breathtaking and perfect for spotting our local wildlife!”
- Creekhouse – “It truly depicts just what it is…a creek house.”
- Happy Ours – “It’s happy and it’s theirs, ours.”
- Pelican Watch and Osprey Watch – “Those are all great locations to view the abundant wildlife our area offers, such as Ospreys and Pelicans.”
