Soft-Shell Crab Season at Pawleys Island

One of the most tempting seafood delicacies is available now at local Pawleys Island restaurants. Soft-shell crabs are a must-have for locals and visitors alike! 

As the waters warm up in Spring, Atlantic Blue Crabs perform an extraordinary feat. They actually back out of their hard shells. For a couple of weeks after the molting process, the crab is soft and edible with no pieces of hard shell to crack and pick through to the meat.

Usually served fried, the whole crab is served up with crispy legs and tender crab meat body. Sometimes soft-shells are served with grits, or potatoes, and sometimes served on a bun.  No matter how it is served, you'll discover another reason to be at the beach in the springtime! Soft-shell crabs are delicious and a seasonal event that shouldn't be missed.
